The Sense District (Sensebezirk) is the only entirely German-speaking district in the canton of Fribourg. Located between the city of Fribourg and the canton of Bern, it takes its name from the river that borders it. Its capital is Tafers.
Its inhabitants, known as "Seisler", speak a distinctive Alemannic dialect and are known for their strong attachment to traditions. The landscape of rolling hills, wild gorges and Pre-Alps attracts many visitors, especially around Lake Schwarzsee, a popular destination in summer and winter alike.
A bridge between French- and German-speaking Switzerland, the Sense District combines tradition and modernity.
